Earnest Apathy, an inherent contradiction, is a nod to the complexities of being a human being. Only years later did I come to apprecite my concept's coincidental relationship to Oscar Wilde's 1895 play The Importance of Being Earnest. In his play, Wilde comedically satirized Victorian mores with frequent plays on words. This is exemplified by the titalur character, Ernest, who is ostensibly not "earnest" (except that the internal contraditions between Ernest and his earnestness continue to go deeper).
